UNIT OF COMPENTENCE 1 – Circular Economy thinking


DESCRIPTION:

Due to environmental, social and economic perspective new business models, supported by European Union (EU) policies were introduced. According to this the development of new professional profiles with upgraded competences are needed. New economy model known as Circular Economy (CE) offers an opportunity to reinvent economy, making it more sustainable and competitive.

Linear economy, which is mostly present nowadays, rely on the take – make – dispose flow of material. In the sense of sustainable acting and development, the economy should become circular. This means that materials and products remain in use and function as long as possible. To start thinking in a circular rather than a linear way, the European Commission regulates impacts on the environment through legislative acts.

 

The Module has the following objectives:

  • The final goal of this module is to provide knowledge to the course participant about Circular Economy principles and the existing European and national legislation and supporting documents. The student will be capable to distinguish existing, linear and Circular Economy.
  • The learning content is taught as much as possible to raise awareness and knowledge of students about the principles of the Circular Economy and existing legislation regarding it.
  • In this unit, student will learn some basics of environmental legislation and Circular Economy principles.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Distinguish between Linear and Circular Economy.
  2. Outline relevant legislation and supporting documents regarding Circular Economy.
  3. Outline the advantages and disadvantages of the maintenance, reuse, recycle and refurbishment of household appliances. Understand when to do them, why and how from perspective of legislation.
